A round-conductor flat ribbon cable aligns multiple insulated conductors side by side. It can organise internal equipment wiring, plug into insulation-displacement connectors (IDC), or form a defined branch between boards, modules and test fixtures. The same flat appearance can hide different conductor counts, pitches, gauges, insulation materials and shielding. It is also not interchangeable with a laminated flexible flat cable (FFC) or flexible printed circuit (FPC); those use different conductor structures and termination systems. The engineering task is to translate a pin map and installation route into a repeatable, inspected assembly.

圆导体扁平排线把多根绝缘芯线并排固定，可整理设备内部布线、配合绝缘位移连接器（IDC）端接，或连接电路板、模块与测试工装。外形同为扁平，芯数、芯线间距、线规、绝缘材料及屏蔽结构却可能不同；它也不能与层压式柔性扁平电缆（FFC）或柔性线路板（FPC）互换，后两者的导体和端接体系不同。工程重点是把针脚表与安装路径变成可重复、可检验的成品组件。

Start with conductor count, centre-to-centre pitch, wire gauge, strand construction and finished width. A 1.27 mm conductor pitch is common in some IDC systems, but it is not a universal ribbon-cable rule; connector contact pitch may be different again. Check the specified cable against the exact connector drawing before choosing a press tool. Bonded sections can sometimes be split into branches, provided the manufacturer allows it and the new edge does not expose or damage conductors. A coloured edge or printed stripe can aid orientation, but should be tied to the approved pin map rather than assumed to mean the same circuit across products.

IDC termination can connect many cores in one operation, but it will also repeat an orientation mistake across every circuit. Define the connector key, latch side, cable-exit direction, mating view and pin-1 datum at both ends. Straight-through, reversed and deliberate crossover cables are different wiring products even if they look similar from the outside. Verify the pin map with a labelled first article; do not rely on connector colour or a legacy machine photograph alone. Where a board header has a shroud or polarising feature, make the mating arrangement part of the drawing and inspection plan.

IDC 能一次端接多芯，也会把方向错误一次复制到所有回路。两端都要定义连接器键位、卡扣面、出线方向、对插视角和 1 号针基准。直通、反向以及有意交叉的排线是不同接线产品，外观相近也不能混用。首件应按有标识的针脚表逐路核对，不能仅凭连接器颜色或旧设备照片判断。若板端排针带护框或防呆结构，对插关系应写入图纸与检验计划。

The insulation-displacement slot is chosen for a specified conductor and insulation range. Confirm the connector and cable maker's compatibility, press height, tooling, strain-relief cover and allowed rework rules. A connector that appears fully seated may still have an uncut insulation layer, a damaged strand or an uneven row. Visual checks should be paired with the circuit-by-circuit continuity and short-circuit checks required by the drawing. If a different gauge or insulation compound is substituted, repeat the termination review instead of assuming the same press setting remains valid.

The profile helps a cable lie against a panel, yet repeated folding at one crease can concentrate strain. Specify bend direction, supported length, exits, edge protection and clearance from moving or hot parts. A flat layout does not itself guarantee low crosstalk or immunity to electromagnetic interference. For faster or noise-sensitive channels, review conductor assignment, ground or return placement, shielding or twisted-pair ribbon options, length and the installed equipment environment. Avoid borrowing a data-rate claim from another cable family; test the assembled channel if the application requires it.

扁平外形便于贴着板面走线，但长期在同一道折痕处反复弯曲，会集中应力。应确定弯曲方向、支撑长度、出线口、边缘防护，以及与运动件和热源的距离。平行排布本身并不保证低串扰或抗电磁干扰。高速或易受噪声影响的通道，应审核信号与地/回流线分配、屏蔽或双绞排线选项、长度及设备安装环境。不能把另一系列的传输速率直接搬用；有要求时需对实际组装通道验证。

A useful sample pack contains the approved cable and connector part numbers, length reference points, pinout, polarity, exit direction, branch dimensions, labelling and any shield or strain-relief detail. First-article inspection should compare these against the drawing before the build is repeated. Production checks can include visual condition, dimensions, continuity and unwanted shorts, with other electrical or mechanical tests specified only when the actual project needs them. Is a ribbon cable the same as FFC or FPC?扁平排线等于 FFC 或 FPC 吗？

No. Round-conductor ribbon cable, laminated FFC and printed-circuit FPC have different constructions and mating systems; specify the exact cable and connector together.

Can an IDC connector be reused after pressing?IDC 接头压过之后可以重复使用吗？

Only if the exact connector manufacturer and project specification permit it. Otherwise a replacement connector and new inspected termination are the safe default.
